Curious Chamber Players
Stockholm
[avant-garde, but avant-garde with a commitment to communicate with the public without the usual pretentiousness that one finds with new music ensembles]
CCP are always curious(...) to explore a wide range of new music repertoire from hard-core modernism to graphically notated chance music, from minimalism to noise music, and from electronics to improvisation. Since its inception in 2003, CCP has experimented with framing concerts and sound installations with a unique use of time and space, each different according to the venue and situation . Experimentation is atthe core of CCP’s work and past projects have included bringing other art forms such as video improvisation, theatre, Tarot meditation, dance, poetry, and fragrance. Other than conventional instrumentation (flute, clarinet, percussion, piano, violin, and cello), CCP extends its sound world through integrating everyday objects into their projects such as balloons, kitchen utensils, and the infamous "beckoning cat".
The core members of Curious Chamber Players have also worked with several of the most renowned new music ensembles in Scandinavia and Europe such as Oslo Sinfonietta, KammarensembleN, Athelas Sinfonietta, Scenatet Ensemble, Asamisimasa,as well as ensemble recherche and musikFabrik. In turn, the group has since developed into one of the most exciting new music groups in Scandinavia and performed in festivals such as SPOR, Ung Nordisk Musik, Sirén, and Stockholm New Music to critical acclaim, bringing their own flavour of spontaneity and identity to every project they undertake.
With Malin Bång as the resident composer and co-artistic director, CCP specializes in collaborating with composers of the younger generation throughout Scandinavia: Simon Steen Andersen, Nicolai Worsaae, Christian Winther Christensen, Øyvind Torvund, Lars-Petter Hagen, Tomi Räisänen, Sami Klemola, to name but a few. As a result the group has formed a special place in Swedish culture which is cosmopolitan in its coremembership and repertoire, but also dedicated to the development of art music in Northern Europe. This is exemplified by its determination to present works from composers outside of Sweden such as Pierre Boulez, Alvin Lucier, Terry Riley, John Cage, Luigi Nono, Rebecca Saunders, Brian Ferneyhough, Tristan Murail, and Louis Andriessen. New commissions for 2009 include works from Mika Pelo, Hannah Hartman, Dominik Karski, Joakim Sandgren, and Jonas Valfridsson. Curious Chamber Players gratefully acknowledges the support of Kulturrådet and Konstnärsnämden. Please see

Oslo Sinfonietta

SpelStina
Sweden
SpelStina consists of 8 fiddlers and one key harp player from the regions surrounding lower Dalälven; Dalarna, Uppland, Gästrikland and Västmanland. The repertoire basis is found in the tunes of 19th century fiddler SpelStina from Torsåker, Gästrikland, but with the influence of many different traditions the SpelStina sound is an exciting experience of Swedish fiddle music. Please see www.myspace.com/spelstina for more info and audio samples!
